Summer Adventures at Eastern Point Day School offers an interdisciplinary experience for students ages 5 -12. Each one week session will introduce a theme with the help of local organizations and individuals who specialize in theater, art, environmental studies, and science. In addition to daily classroom activities and field experiences, students will have the opportunity to play games and sports outside while also taking time to visit scenic Niles Beach. Children who sign up for the full day will join students from the Boston School of Modern Languages on daily afternoon outings.
Weekly Themes:
Little Theater by the Sea - Week 1: July 9-13
With her degree in theatre education, director Stephanie Manning will introduce campers to the world of theatre arts. Through the exploration of performance and technical theatre, including scene work, improvisation, and make-up design, campers will develop a strong understanding of theatre arts, both onstage and off. Working with local theatre companies, campers will have the opportunity to experience first-hand what happens behind the curtains and under the lights. The week will culminate with a performance showcasing the campers work.
Mad Scientists - Exploration in Science Week 2: July 16-20
The world around us serves as a science experiment within itself. Discovery has the potential of being at every corner if we only let our curiosity run wild. Join us this summer as we make hypothesis’, draw conclusions, explore, and experiment with science and discovery. Children will learn a variety of different scientific methods and themes under the instruction of EPDS’s very own science teacher, Michelle Gallo.
The Colored Palette Week 3: July 23-27
Working closely with local artists and Montserrat Art students, children will learn the endless possibilities that art can create. Each day of the week a different workshop and artistic style will inspire young artists to find their own niche. With mural painting, clay creations, photography, and much more our summer by the sea just got a splash of color.
Green Thumb Week 4: July 30-Aug 3
Advocating healthier lifestyles, social responsibility, and changes for a greener planet, children will learn ways in which they can adapt, sustain, and protect their environment. Organizations like NOAA and Change is Simple will join us as we visit hiking trails, beaches, and local farms where children will experience how our daily actions and behavior impacts the environment. Children will learn that by making adjustments both big and small, we can raise awareness about our changing planet while building a community that is capable of sustaining it.
